Piano Exams
Seasonal Piano Evaluations
In direct correlation to recitals, examinations are the "mini-performances" in front of an adjudicator (examiner) that keep the students sharp and prepared. The fall and spring examinations cover topics such as ear training, pitch training, music theory, reading, writing, and comprehension, as well as their current musical development. It's important to note that students perform in front of an examiner who is themselves a decorated and devoted artist and pianist whose opinion is highly regarded. If a student achieves a passing mark on their exam, they receive their certification, whether in theory or performance, and advance to the next level. This level system is excellent for encouraging student practice and acts as a reward system, much like a video game. They level up and receive new songs and achievements. The student will then receive their accolades in front of their peers and family members during the next recital. The way the student exams and recitals are spaced is in direct correlation with one another. This means every season brings either an exam or a recital, keeping the student always sharp and on their toes, constantly performing and improving. The cycle is: Spring Exam, Summer Recital, Fall Exam, Winter Recital. Rinse and repeat. When pressure is applied, diamonds are formed.
